The first annual Palo Alto All-Day Singing was held at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Palo Alto, Palo Alto, California, on the fourth Saturday in August. The class was called to order by Carolyn Deacy leading 32t. Will Fitzgerald offered the opening prayer.

A business meeting was held and the following officers were elected: Chair—Dan Harper; Vice-Chair—Terry Moore; Secretary—Betty Marvin.

The class was called back by Chris Thorman leading 37b. He told of the long history of Sacred Harp in Palo Alto and acknowledged original Palo Alto singers. Leaders: Susan Fetcho 369, 371; David Hawes 209, 260; Terry Barber 308, 376; Carolyn Deacy 368, 421; Joseph Mathas 335, 159; Erica Martinez 448t, 189; Lindy Groening 38t, 451; Chris Thorman 184, 269.
A business meeting was held. Treasurer reported that expenses were met. Secretary reported. At least 61 singers attended from California, Colorado, Michigan, Washington, and Texas, and 99 songs were sung with 34 leaders. The Resolutions Committee, Laura Boyd Russell and Peter Ross, thanked all who made the singing possible: the officers; chaplain, Will Fitzgerald; arranging, Hal Eisen and Clarissa Fetrow; treasurer, Terry Barber. Announcements of singings were made. Dan Harper led 347 as the closing song. Will Fitzgerald offered the closing prayer.

Location: in the Fireside Room, Unitarian Universalist Church of Palo Alto, 505 E. Charleston Rd., Palo Alto, CA 94306. (See map below.)
Directions: Highway 101 to exit 400C San Antonio Rd. headed south. Take first right onto Charleston Rd. Go 0.6 miles and the church will be on the right, just after the intersection with Middlefield Rd.
7:15 — Friday night social: Meet at the Unitarian Universalist Church. We’ll park there and walk across the street to Green Elephant for Chinese food ($10-15), then to Rick’s Rather Rich Ice Cream for dessert.
12:00-1:00—Dinner on the grounds
5:00-7:00 — Saturday night social
The social will be at the home of a local singer who lives near University Ave. in Palo Alto. Directions will be available at the singing. For bicyclists: It’s 4 miles from singing on bike-friendly roads, a few blocks from Palo Alto Caltrain station. After the social, you can walk to restaurants, ice cream parlors, the Stanford Theatre (nonprofit theatre showing classic films), etc. There will be an arts fair on University Ave., too!
2:00-5:00 p.m. — Fourth Sunday Palo Alto singing, at the Unitarian Universalist Church, in Room 1. Singing starts promptly at 2, there will be time for socializing and potluck snacks later on. There will be root beer floats, and whatever goodies you bring.
7:30-9:30 — Weekly Berkeley singing, All Saints Chapel, 2451 Ridge Rd., Berkeley.
